What to Expect
Osteopathic treatments are done with the patient fully clothed on a massage or osteopathic table. It is best to dress comfortably, such as a gym outfit with pants.
The Osteopathic Manual Practitioner will do a visual assessment looking for asymmetries. An example could be that one shoulder is lower than the other or one hip is ahead of the other. Next is motion testing. Ideally we should be able to move reasonably equally in all directions. This testing can be done by the patient themselves, or by the Osteopathic Manual Practitioner.
When there is a visual or a motion asymmetry this is an indication of the areas that the Osteopathic Manual Practitioner should focus on. They would then attempt to bring symmetry to these areas using osteopathic principles and techniques.
Initial Appointment
Once the initial appointment is booked, health history forms and agreements will be sent to the patient to fill out and sign.
At the initial appointment, there is extra time for a full review of the health history of the patient. The process will be explained and a full assessment will be performed. Typically a more general treatment is performed to allow the patient to adapt to the treatment.
